Vivaldi launched the first Android automotive web browser


The privacy-friendly web browser is making its debut in cars and here’s what we know so far.

Polestar 2 and Vivaldi Navigator

Vivaldi has teamed up with famous Swedish automaker, Polestar, to integrate its full browser on the Polestar 2. The browser maker made the announcement in a blog post on December 22, 2021. This makes Vivaldi the very first Android browser. Automotive OS and one of the first fully functional navigators available in a car.

It also marks a key milestone on the journey to integrating the Android Automotive operating system. In this article, you will learn more about the Vivaldi / Polestar collaboration and how the Vivaldi browser works in Polestar 2.

What you will need to use the Vivaldi browser in Android Automotive OS

To use the Vivaldi Navigator in your Polestar 2 you will need the following:

  • Polestar 2.
  • Android Automotive OS (which is preinstalled in the 11 inch display unit).
  • Vivaldi browser for Polestar 2.
  • Internet access.

With these in place, you are good to go.

How Vivaldi Browser Works for Android Automotive OS

Polestar 2 is equipped with the Android Automotive operating system which includes the Google Play Store. Simply launch the Google Play Store on the Polestar 2 and find and install the Vivaldi browser as you normally would on your mobile device.

Once you’ve installed the browser, you can start enjoying the same flexibility, functionality, and privacy that Vivaldi is widely known for.

For safety reasons, you can only use the browser when you are parked. If you resume driving and try to stream content, only audio streaming will work.
